Administrative Assistant Role

Administrative Assistants are hired by the Returning Officer in each electoral division to provide administrative support in the returning office. The Administrative Assistant is the first point of contact to the public, candidates, and other election stakeholders. They are responsible for managing the in-office Special Ballots for the electoral division and will perform data entry and prepare reports for the Returning Officer, Election Clerk, and the Trainer throughout the election period.

This role is compensated $21/hour.

Time Commitment

Once the next Provincial General Election is called*, Administrative Assistants will work full-time during the election period. Administrative Assistants will also need to be available for training, to open and establish the returning office, as well as for post-election closing activities.

*Alberta has a fixed election date. The next provincial election is anticipated to occur on May 29, 2023 (writ issued May 1, 2023). Key dates include:

  • Training: March 2023
  • Opening the returning office: April 2023
  • Election Period – Full Time Work: May 1 – 29, 2023
  • Post Election Closing Activities: June 1 – 10, 2023
