Chief Electoral Officer

As of March 31, 2022 section 3(3) of the Election Act states: the appointment of the Chief Electoral Officer of Alberta expires 12 months after Election Day for the 2nd general election held after the Chief Electoral Officer is appointed unless the Chief Electoral Officer is re-appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council prior to that date on the recommendation of the Standing Committee.

As the current Chief Electoral Officer’s appointment was made prior to this amendment, the appointment of the current Chief Electoral Officer will expire 12 months after Election Day for the next general election unless the Chief Electoral Officer is reappointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council prior to that date on the recommendation of the Standing Committee.
