Funky Banjoko Funky Banjoko, an independent candidate in the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo electoral division for the 2023 General Election did not meet the legislated requirement to display an authorization statement and contact information on various signage and printed materials contrary to section 134(2) of the Election Act.

Ms. Banjoko has agreed to modify signage and printed materials to ensure that the correct information is displayed. Further, Ms. Banjoko has agreed that all future advertising of this nature will adhere to the provisions, as outlined in the Election Act and the Chief Electoral Officer’s Advertising Guidelines for Political Participants.

Tim Hoven Tim Hoven, an independent candidate for the upcoming Provincial General Election engaged in campaign activity and posted a campaign website while unregistered. An independent candidate is ineligible to register and perform any campaign activity under section 9(2) and 9(2.1) of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA) until after the commencement of the campaign period.

Mr. Hoven agreed to remove his website and not accept any contributions or incur any campaign expenses until the campaign period begins, in accordance with section 9(1.1) EFCDA.

Banff-Kananaskis Constituency Association
The Banff-Kananaskis Constituency Association sponsored an advertising billboard, placed along the eastbound portion of Highway 1 near the Highway 40 intersection, in Alberta. The billboard did not include an authorization statement stating the sponsor’s name and contact information contrary to s. 134 (2) of the Election Act. The Constituency Association has agreed to modify the billboard to ensure that the correct information is displayed. Further, they have agreed that all future advertising of this nature will adhere to the provisions, as outlined in the Election Act and the Chief Electoral Officer’s Advertising Guidelines for Political Participants.     Ariana Mancini Ariana Mancini, the NDP endorsed candidate for the upcoming by-election in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, her campaign manager Brandon Stevens and the NDP, produced advertising messages that contained incorrect sponsorship information, contrary to s. 134 of the Election Act. The contact information indicated that the advertising message was “Authorized by the Official Agent for Ariana Mancini”.
    Candidates are not able to appoint an Official Agent until such time as their nomination papers are submitted and accepted by the Returning Officer, after the Writ of Election has dropped. The parties have agreed to cease production and distribution of messages with this authorization statement at this time and to ensure that the correct authorization statements are displayed, at the appropriate times.
    Ms. Mancini has not, and agrees that she will not, accept any contributions or incur any campaign expenses until the campaign period begins, in accordance with s. 9(1.1) of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA).
    All contributions and expense recording and reporting provisions, as outlined in the EFCDA, will be adhered to by all parties.

    Brian Jean Brian Jean, the UCP endorsed candidate for the upcoming by-election in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, and his campaign coordinator, Vitor Marciano, produced a website which contained incorrect contribution information, which could have resulted in the donation of contributions contrary to of s. 9(1.1) of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA).
    The parties have confirmed that only contributions for Brian Jeans nomination contest were being accepted and that the language on the website was incorrect. Nomination contest contributions ceased in accordance with the provisions of the EFCDA, two months after Brian Jean was selected as the endorsed candidate. The donation functionality of the website has been disabled until the by-election campaign period commences.
    The parties have confirmed, and did agree, that no contributions would be accepted by Brian Jean for his election campaign, during the period between the end of his nomination contest and the commencement of the by-election campaign period. The parties acknowledge that they are currently not campaigning and that no election campaign contributions have been accepted and no election campaign expenses have been incurred.
    All contributions and expense recording and reporting provisions, as outlined in the EFCDA, will be adhered to by all parties.
