General Elections

Elections Alberta produces an election report following each Provincial General Election to review the event, identify areas for improvement and legislative amendments. These reports contain historical reference information regarding election results, election finances, and electoral processes in place at the time of the event.

  • The 2023 Provincial General Election was Alberta’s first fixed date election, held on Monday, May 29, 2023, following a 28-day election period. A total of 1,777,315 electors voted in this election, resulting in a voter turnout of 60.5%.

    The Report of the Chief Electoral Officer on the 2023 Provincial General Election was presented in two volumes, the General Election Report and the accompanying Statement of Vote:

    View Election Report  – The 2023 Provincial General Election Report includes information on the provincial enumeration and election, including preparation activities, event costs, financial disclosures of political participants, and recommendations for legislative change under the Election Act and EFCDA.

    View Statement of Vote | Excel Download – The Statement of Vote includes detailed electoral division results and maps for all 87 electoral division in Alberta.

  • The Provincial General Election was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Over 1.9 million electors voted in this election, resulting in a final voter turnout of 67.5%. This represents the highest voter turnout in Alberta since the 1971 Provincial General Election.

    The Report of the Chief Electoral Officer on the 2019 Provincial General Election was presented in three volumes, as follows:

    View Volume 1 – Volume I is comprised of information on the election, statistics, costs of the event and recommendations under the Election Act.

    View Volume 2Excel – Volume II is comprised of the poll-by-poll results and polling subdivision maps from all 87 electoral divisions.

    View Volume 3 – Volume III is comprised of information on the financial activities of political participants relating to the election event under the EFCDA.

  • The Provincial General Election was held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Almost 1.5 million electors voted in this election, resulting in a final voter turnout of 56.7%.

    For print copies of the report, please note the following corrections:

    • On page 261-263, we indicated that Chris Noble was a member of the Wildrose Party, when in fact, he is a member of the New Democratic Party. While correct in all other locations throughout the document, we apologize for the error in this instance.
    • On pages 25 and 36, we indicated that voter turnout was 56.74%, when in fact, the official voter turnout was 57.02%.
  • The Provincial General Election was held on Monday, April 23, 2012. Almost 1.3 million electors voted in this election, resulting in a final voter turnout of 54.4%.

  • The Provincial General Election was held on Monday, March 3, 2008. Over 950,000 electors voted in this election, resulting in a final voter turnout of 40.6%. This represents the lowest voter turnout in Alberta history.
