The Chief Electoral Officer shares the results of investigations

January 30, 2013

EDMONTON – The Chief Electoral Officer has announced that disclosure of the results of investigations under the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (the Act) will appear on the website (www.elections.ab.ca) commencing on January 31, 2013.

This information is being shared as a result of recent legislative amendments contained in the Election Accountability Amendment Act, 2012. It is one of several provisions that aim to further increase the openness and transparency of political financing in Alberta.

By law, disclosure is limited to violations that occurred on or after December 10, 2009. Results of investigations into alleged violations that occurred prior to that date cannot be disclosed, in accordance with the confidentiality provisions of the Act.

Elections Alberta is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that provides non-political administration of the electoral process.
